Current mood: contemplative

of school videos
So India is agog with excitement about the Delhi school scandal ---
there have been many arrests -- starting off with an IIT maverick and
ending (?) with the CEO of bazee.com, including some people who bought
the clip in the middle .

Well I firmly believe it is action gone too far --- so there was
consensual act of intimacy between the 2 teens and things got out of
hand and the clip started circulating --- effectively destroying the
lives of those 2 kids ---

but the way India is reacting now --- it seems that they are more
interested in burying evidence of the act rather than perhaps attack
at the root of the issue --- among these flurry of arrests we seem to
be losing sight of the original issue of relations pre - adulthood.

It is almost as if India does not want to acknowledge that this is
reality and such incidents are pretty frequent ( this one had the bad
luck of coming out in the open)

interesting, really the way the topic is treated as a whole in the
society --- for all the reluctance to discuss the topic - India has a
rather high population rate --- maybe they would like to believe that
babies come when you roll around a temple 108 times (?)

The point is this is nothing new -- it has happened in the past -- it
will happen in the future --- we should accept it and perhaps educate
youngsters about the possible dangers of getting into early relations
-- after that the decision is theirs --- but if they do decide to go
ahead then they will face the consequences ---
if they feel they are old enough for this, they are also old enough to
accept responsibility --
and no one has any business arresting people left and right ----

the attitude displayed by the people reminds me of this anecdote I
read about an ostrich -- whenever the ostrich feels threatened -- it
dosent run -- it buries its head in the sand -- so that it cant see
the danger ---

There are 3 issues:
1)The incident in itself
2)The chronological age of the protagonists
3)The video capture and distribution

#3 in itself is new to India, let alone #2 or otherwise. So that is the reason behind the sensation
#1 is also supposed to be not so widespread (i am no expert, so dont flame me). Indians supposedly are very efficient in this regard i.e. they dont spend time on anything other that the exact steps needed for procreation. So yet another reason for attention.

Now, the videographing in this case was not covert. If the kids were stupid enough to record it, then you cant blame others. My fav way of asking it: If no one was supposed to see the video, why did they make it? So, that point of yours also goes out of the door.

Next, coming to legal action against direct/indirect promoters/distributors. Legally its valid. So this is not some arbitary action. You probably are not aware of the restrictions of Indian porn laws, I suggest you read it and understand why this kind of stuff is illegal.

There is also the "minor" factor. Good ol Bangalore Times had once suggested that kids in 9th std who feel they are old enough and precocios enough to drive motorized vehicles should be allowed to do so. Next thing you know, the 10 year old playing Unreal will say he is mature enough to own a thermonuclear weapon. Your agrument of "if they feel they are old enuf, then they are old enuf", is not good enough for every teen feels so about himself/herself on most issues. That is the hallmark of adolescence.

For whatever reason, no one feels kids should not have acceess to video phones, heck cellphones in the first place for that matter. The last time I went to college, the junta was complaining that having your phone switched on in a lecture is not permitted and the college so sucks. I disagree. When I say that for college, imagine what I would say for school :-)
